Stephen King, the master of horror, has described Donald Trump as a 'horror story' in a recent Q&A with readers. The author, known for his prolific output and chilling tales, answered questions on inspiration, his writing process, and his views on the former US president.
When asked about Trump, King said: 'Trump is a horror story, isn't he?' He did not elaborate further, but the comment reflects his well-known disdain for the former president. King has been a vocal critic of Trump, often comparing him to characters from his novels.
On his writing routine, King revealed he still uses Microsoft Word for most of his work, though he sometimes writes in longhand. He listens to music only during rewrites, preferring club music or disco for its repetitive beat. 'Today I was listening to some zydeco music, and LCD Soundsystem,' he said.
King also discussed his character Holly Gibney, who evolved from a minor role in 'Mr Mercedes' to a heroine across seven books. 'I sort of fell in love with her,' he said. 'She was supposed to be almost a joke character... but the more I wrote about her, the more she started to become confident and interesting.'
When asked about his prolific output, King said he writes to entertain himself. 'It's hard to decide what to do with those two or three extra hours a day between 9am and noon. You can only watch so many gameshows on TV.' He advised aspiring writers to keep honing their talent, saying: 'The more you do it, the more you like it.'
