The visit of Logos Hope, described as the world's largest floating book fair, to Liverpool has been postponed because of adverse weather. The vessel was originally scheduled to welcome visitors at Liverpool's Cruise Port from October 23 until November 5.
GBA Ships, the non-profit faith-based organisation that operates the ship, confirmed the delay in an update on October 21, citing the forecasted impact of Storm Austen, which is expected to bring strong winds, heavy rain, and adverse sea conditions across parts of the UK. The local port authority advised the ship to delay its arrival.
Revised Schedule for Liverpool
Logos Hope will now remain open in Belfast until 10pm on October 24. Its time in Liverpool is scheduled to run from October 27 until November 8. The revised schedule includes closures on October 29, November 2, and November 3, with opening hours varying from 10am to 10pm on most days, and 1pm to 10pm on arrival and departure days.
The ship offers a selection of over 5,000 book titles covering faith, children's literature, science and technology, arts and cookery, languages, and personal development. There will be a £1 entry fee per person, with free entrance for those under 12 and over 65s. No advance booking is required.
Ship's History and Operations
Before becoming a floating book fair, Logos Hope was a car ferry operating in Europe. Built in 1973, the vessel still retains its original 53-year-old engines and lifeboats.
The organisation confirmed the visit has been postponed solely due to weather conditions, and the revised schedule is now in place for the ship's stay in Liverpool.
