Katie Price and Lee Andrews have acquired a new Pomsky puppy, sparking immediate concern from animal welfare groups and dog behavior experts. The couple, who are frequently traveling between the UK and Dubai, have a well-documented history of pet deaths—at least eight animals have died while in Price's care. PETA UK's Senior Vice President Mimi Bekhechi condemned the move, stating: 'Is there no low to which Katie Price will not stoop? While one of her cats, Doris, is reportedly still missing, instead of being worried sick and out searching for her, as any caring, responsible guardian would, she has flown to another country and acquired a new dog, as easily as one replaces a pair of socks.'
Breed Concerns and Expert Warnings
The puppy, advertised as a Pomsky (a Pomeranian-Husky cross), bears a strong resemblance to a purebred Husky. Certified dog trainers note that crossing a Husky with a Pomeranian does not eliminate the demanding traits of either breed. Huskies are known for their high energy, independence, and need for extensive exercise—adult Huskies require at least two hours of vigorous activity daily, plus mental stimulation, according to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. Without it, they can become destructive, vocal, and prone to escaping.
Battersea frequently sees Huskies surrendered by owners who underestimated their needs. The charity stated: 'We frequently see Huskies given up to Battersea. This is because people often underestimate the complexities of the breed and whether they’re compatible with their lives.'
Dubai Heat and Lifestyle Incompatibility
Huskies are bred for cold climates, yet Price and Andrews are increasingly based in Dubai, where summer temperatures regularly exceed 40°C. Animal welfare laws in the UAE require owners to protect Huskies from heat, and some guidance advises against keeping them in apartments due to their vocal nature and welfare needs. The couple's lifestyle involves frequent international travel, legal issues, and periods of separation—Lee Andrews has been imprisoned multiple times in Dubai, most recently leaving the dog reportedly abandoned at a pet sitter.
History of Pet Tragedies
Price's history with animals is marred by tragedy: a horse killed on a road in 2017, dogs Queenie (2018), Sparkle (2020), Sharon (2022), and Blade (2023) all died after being hit by cars. A chameleon allegedly died of a broken heart, and a puppy suffocated in a chair mechanism. Most recently, her cat Doris gave birth to a premature kitten that did not survive, and Doris herself remains missing.
Lee's ex-wife, Dina Taji, claimed on Instagram that the dog was dumped at a pet sitter after Andrews was jailed. She said: 'I thought, “I need to save this dog now this person is in jail.” We need to make sure that these are reliable people that are not going to neglect, abuse, or abandon the pet.'
PETA's Offer and Calls for Ban
PETA has offered £5,000 for Price to stop acquiring animals, a deal that remains on the table. Bekhechi added: 'How many animals have been lost, discarded, or have died under her so-called “care” before authorities ban her from keeping animals? We implore her to take us up on it – for the sake of Doris, this puppy, and any other animals unfortunate enough to cross her path.'
