Call The Midwife actress Helen George has revealed the heartbreaking death of her secret boyfriend, who was diagnosed with leukemia. The 42-year-old star opened up about the devastating loss during an appearance on the Mystic Mates podcast.
Shock Diagnosis and Filming Commitment
According to The Mirror, Helen was preparing to fly to the Bahamas to film the ITV show Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters when her partner received the diagnosis. She recounted: "I had been dating someone who very suddenly got diagnosed with leukaemia. It was pretty serious from the start and he knew." The next day, she had to travel for the documentary, leaving her to cope from a distance. "I would call my best friend and sob down the phone about this lovely, beautiful man," she said.
Comfort Through Clairvoyance
Helen finds solace in believing her partner watches over her. "He now comes through in my clairvoyance readings – he's looking after me," she said. Speaking on the podcast, she added: "I went to this clairvoyant last week and she said 'This is your ex boyfriend, and he died very suddenly after you started dating him. He's come into the room because he's not very happy about your situation.'" Helen described crying because it was "wonderful to think this person, whom I didn't really know for that long, was there." She noted that he was "angry that he'd left me looking for someone else and then finding someone else who wasn't suitable."
Recent Split from Dan Innes
Earlier this year, Helen split from businessman Dan Innes just months after he moved into her West London home. A source said: "Helen and Dan have gone their separate ways. They had a whirlwind romance but their differences became apparent. It has been a difficult time for them both." Following the breakup, Helen shared quotes hinting at feeling "disrespected." One read: "I absolutely take responsibility for when I am wrong. But I will never apologise for responding to disrespect. If you lit the match, do not stand in the flames pretending to be the victim." Another said: "I don't want my daughter to be like me. I want her to speak up sooner. Walk away faster. Trust herself deeper. Apologise less. Take up more space. Ask bigger questions. Dream louder. And if that means she becomes everything I wasn't good."
Past Relationships
Helen had previously been romantically linked to her Call The Midwife co-star Olly Rix, who played her on-screen husband. She was also in a seven-year relationship with Jack Ashton, with whom she shares two young daughters.
