Vogue Williams has revealed that her plans to celebrate her husband Spencer Matthews' birthday at the five-star Beaverbrook Hotel in Surrey were thwarted after Zendaya and Tom Holland booked the entire venue for their wedding celebrations.
Birthday plans derailed
The Irish presenter, who is expecting her fourth child with the former Made In Chelsea star, had hoped to whisk Spencer away for a luxury break at the hotel to mark his 38th birthday. However, the couple found the hotel completely booked out after Zendaya, 29, and Tom, 30, reportedly took over the entire 370-acre estate near Leatherhead for a lavish three-day event believed to have cost around £500,000.
Vogue, 40, had initially considered travelling to Scotland to stay with Spencer's parents, but after being advised not to fly, she decided a hotel close to London – and crucially, her doctor – would be a safer option.
'I was, like, it would be nice to go to a hotel near London so I'm near my doctor if I have to come back,' she told the Daily Mail's Eden Confidential. 'We were going to go up to Spenny's parents' place in Scotland, but I wasn't allowed to fly, so I was meant to go to Beaverbrook, but Zendaya and Tom Holland had gotten married there, so they were totally booked out.'
The venue and the wedding
The luxury country house hotel, once owned by newspaper proprietor Lord Beaverbrook, who entertained figures including Winston Churchill at the estate, now boasts 56 rooms and suites, with standard rooms typically costing between £420 and £1,200 a night. Its sprawling grounds and secluded Surrey location provided a fitting setting for the couple's celebrations.
The couple reportedly hired out the entire venue, with around 250 guests attending. Secrecy was taken seriously, with guests and staff reportedly banned from using their mobile phones to prevent pictures and details from leaking. Among the A-list guests were Zendaya's Dune co-star Timothée Chalamet and his girlfriend Kylie Jenner, as well as Tom's Marvel co-star Robert Downey Jr. Some guests reportedly arrived by helicopter.
The festivities are said to have begun with a rehearsal dinner on Monday before the wedding ceremony the following day, with Tom's chef brother Sam, 27, serving as best man. Guests reportedly spent the three-day celebration drinking champagne, playing croquet, and enjoying Japanese food, with a pool party also thrown. Red and blue lighting was incorporated into the celebrations in tribute to Spider-Man.
Emotional speeches
The newlyweds' speeches were said to have been one of the most emotional moments of the event. A source told The Sun: 'The ceremony was so beautiful and romantic. Tom and Zendaya aced their speeches as well — they were both very funny but also very emotional.'
'There wasn't a dry eye in the house. They're incredibly hard-working and lovely people, and this stunning wedding has capped off an amazing year for them.'
The Surrey celebrations reportedly marked the second time Zendaya and Tom celebrated their marriage. The couple have been romantically linked since 2016 after meeting while making Spider-Man: Homecoming, but have largely kept major milestones in their relationship away from the public eye.
