Wynne Evans has spoken out about his relationship with Katya Jones and other former Strictly Come Dancing co-stars, revealing that only Anton Du Beke has stayed in touch since he left the show.
In a recent TikTok video answering viewers' questions, the 54-year-old, who appeared on the show in 2024, said he no longer hears from his former dancing partner or former EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick.
What Wynne said about his co-stars
Wynne said: "I'll answer these in one. Short answer - no. Longer answer - of course they all reached out to me when I left. Privately, they all gave me their support. But, when I asked them to do it publicly, they said they'd have to check with their publicists. I kind of understood that."
He added: "Even though, I'm a guy who if I'm your friend, I'm your friend through thick and thin. That really surprised me actually about the whole celebrity community. I thought they were my friends but, actually, it was c***. All my friends from opera - no problem at all. I hear from them all the time."
He singled out Anton Du Beke as the exception, saying: "So, yeah, no I don't hear from them. Anton is the exception to the rule. I've heard from Anton, and he's a top bloke. He invited me to his show. I saw Lauren, she was in his show, and she came around my house the next day for lunch but Anton - he was really nice. He's a top, top bloke. Of all the people there, I would say he's the most real. I think he's just a good, solid bloke."
Scandals and departure from the show
Wynne competed on Strictly in 2024 alongside Katya, but they apologised during the series for what he described as them "messing around". One controversial incident included a scene of him with his hand on Katya's waist.
While on the tour, he apologised for using "inappropriate and unacceptable" language amid reports that he used the term "spit roast" to Janette Manrara at a photocall. Wynne has since insisted that it was instead part of a nickname for Jamie Borthwick and "wasn't meant sexually".
Wynne subsequently left the tour and his radio show after the scandal broke. He said in a statement at the time: "I've agreed with the BBC that I'll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing. I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection. Apologies to those I won't get to see at the remaining performances and I'm grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me."
It was later announced that he would not return to his BBC Radio Wales show, which he had hosted since 2016. A spokesperson for the BBC said at the time that there were also "no plans" to work with him again. He said in a statement: "From the very depths of my heart - thank you. These past few months, your love has been the light in my darkest days. Every message, every word of encouragement, every moment you stood by me has carried me through more than you could ever know."
