Trigger Point and Line of Duty star Vicky McClure is appearing alongside her husband Jonny Owen on BBC's Saturday Kitchen this weekend, offering a glimpse into their life away from the cameras. The pair will join host Matt Tebbutt and chefs John Chantarasak and Anna Haugh for the latest edition of the weekend cookery show.
Who is Jonny Owen?
Jonny Owen, from Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales, has worked as an actor, writer, TV sports presenter and musician. The 55-year-old, a teenage Welsh Boys Club boxing champion, started out as lead singer and bassist in 90s indie band The Pocket Devils, who landed a record deal before splitting.
He moved into acting with the ITV Wales drama Nuts and Bolts, playing Richey. The series won The Royal Television Society Award for Best Regional Drama in 1999. Jonny later appeared in Dirty Work, Murphy's Law and played Ady in Channel 4's Shameless.
He teamed up with Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh and writing partner Dean Cavanagh on dramas including Dose for the BBC, Wedding Belles for Channel 4 and Good Arrows for ITV. His films include Little White Lies and Svengali. The Cardiff City fan also presented HTV's Soccer Sunday and worked as a writer and producer for ITV Wales.
Vicky and Jonny's relationship
Vicky met Jonny while working on the 2013 comedy film Svengali, written by Jonny, in which she played his on-screen girlfriend, Shell. The pair hit it off almost immediately, as Vicky explained on the How to Fail podcast with Elizabeth Day.
"We literally lived together from a week of meeting," she said. "We have basically stayed together from that time until now. We've never lived apart. I am not sure about fate but I couldn't see my life without him. When you finally meet someone who gets you, lets you fly, loves you for who you are and you can have that genuine laughter, it's amazing."
Jonny proposed on Christmas Day in 2017. Speaking to the Nottingham Post, Vicky recalled: "He popped the question over a cup of tea – we moved onto the bubbles by 8.30am." They married in Nottingham in 2023, with Vicky sharing pictures celebrating with her Line of Duty co-stars.
Working together
The pair have worked together many times and host the Sky History crime series Britain's Murder Map, investigating some of Britain's most infamous historical crimes. They also launched Day Fever, the daytime disco phenomenon with daytime parties at venues across the country.
