Trevor Nelson Reveals Brain Tumour Diagnosis

BBC Radio 2 presenter Trevor Nelson has confirmed he has been diagnosed with a brain tumour, revealing he has undergone "very serious surgery" to tackle the disease. The 62-year-old DJ, who had been absent from his popular radio show for several weeks, shared the news in a heartfelt update on Instagram on Thursday, August 20.

Health Update After Weeks of Speculation

Nelson had stepped away from his programme due to an unexplained illness, prompting the BBC to find temporary replacements. In his first statement addressing the situation, he wrote: "There’s been a lot of speculation as to what’s wrong with me, I know that much. My phone’s blown up 20 times over with people asking what’s wrong with me."

He explained that he wanted to share an update in response to the concern from listeners, though he noted they would eventually hear the full story when the time was right. "I was minding my own business and then it was discovered I had a brain tumour," he penned. "As you can imagine, I was shocked. In fact, my world was turned upside down."

Surgery and Recovery

Nelson confirmed that the surgery went "incredibly well" and that he is now "recuperating and resting" at home. He added: "Quite literally, my head was all over the place. I knew I had to stop work because I couldn’t be that guy on the radio knowing I had that going on." The DJ admitted he "feels great right now" following the procedure.

Support from Colleagues

The update was met with widespread praise from friends and BBC Radio co-stars. Former BBC Radio host Zoe Ball commented: "So good to see your face Trevor and learn that you’re doing well. Huge healing love to you wonderful man." Clara Amfo wrote: "Thank God for your brilliant surgeons, you’re meant to be here UT! Love you." Fearne Cotton added: "We love you Trev. So happy you're recovering well."
