The Blame star teases future of ITV drama

The Blame is coming to an end on ITV on Monday night, but a star of the show has now teased its future. Actor Nathan Mensah, who plays DI Lewis Brimah in the police drama, has hinted at what could come next for his character and the story.

This marks Mensah's first TV role, alongside Michelle Keegan and Douglas Booth. The thriller follows Michelle's character DI Emma Crane as she works to uncover systemic corruption and misogyny from within the police force. After the death of a teenage girl is linked back to years of abuse and cover-ups, Emma is left questioning who she can trust and whether she should dig up past secrets to expose the truth.

A tense cliffhanger ending

The final scenes, airing tonight, Monday 5 October, see Emma and Lewis work together to catch a killer, before he discovers what she may have been hiding all along, ending on a tense cliffhanger, reports Wales Online.

Nathan has now teased a possible storyline for a future series, saying: “I would personally want to step into a DI position, and then investigate Emma but without her knowing.”

Exploring Lewis's family life

He also spoke about wanting to explore more scenes with his onscreen family in possible future seasons. He said: “I would personally really enjoy that and also maybe involving his wife a little bit more on what’s happening at the station.

“We get to see two scenes with her where you get to know more about how Lewis feels about Tom, and the fact that he can’t believe this is even happening.

“But I think it would be really interesting to see Lewis’ wife, and a woman’s perspective, on how he should navigate how Michelle’s character has shut him out and hidden information from him.

“So I would really like to see that and get Grace’s character, more of her perspective and thoughts. Even just the idea of it being inevitable that a woman would be touched or looked at inappropriately, I think that needs to be highlighted more, especially with everything going on at the moment. It would be really interesting if she could be more of a pivotal character in the story.”

Talking about his onscreen family, he continued: “Some of my favourite days were working with my wife Grace [Saif, who plays Jia Brimah] and daughter Tiahna [Krenek, who plays Mila Brimah].

“I just loved showing that side because you get to see a completely different side of Lewis. It’s the man without the uniform. He’s a husband and a dad, I think that showing his family is really important because it gives you an understanding of what he’s fighting for.

“He’s not fighting for a general wash of justice, he actually has people at home, two girls specifically, who he loves and so I think inevitably, that affects the way he views the world.”

The Blame is available to watch on ITVX.
