The first celebrity eliminated from this year's Strictly Come Dancing expressed "distaste" as the judges confirmed their time on the show was over. Celebrity hairdresser Chris Appleton, 43, and his professional partner Amy Dowden found themselves in the Movie Week dance-off opposite actress Jaime Winstone, 42, and her partner Carlos Gu.
Body language reveals disappointment
According to body language expert Inball Honigman, both stars were determined to make it through, and Chris could not hide his feelings when the result was announced. "When they hear the result, Jaime's chin rises in a show of victory against the odds, while Chris's chin is lowered in a dejected show of resignation. Neither of them is attempting to hide their emotions. Chris's slumped shoulders reveal his sadness and his tight lips signify distaste. He doesn't think this was the right choice, and he feels embarrassed to be checking out so early in the game," she said.
Speaking on behalf of Covers.com, Honigman revealed they had very similar feelings about being in the bottom two. "Both Jaime and Chris were determined to make it through, and that determination is etched all over their faces. Interestingly, they both display the exact same facial expression when the results are revealed."
The dance-off and the judges' verdict
"Their his-and-hers jutting chins signal superiority, dominance and an acute desire to overcome. Jamie is sticking her chin out, bracing herself for whatever may come, and Chris is seen jutting his chin out in defiance, wishing that the pendulum swings in his favour," she observed.
Chris and Amy left the competition after the judges' scores were added to those from last week's first live show, when there was no public vote, and were then combined with the results of the public vote. Both couples performed their routines again. Chris and Amy performed their Cha Cha to I'll Be Ready from Baywatch, before Jaime and Carlos performed their Cha Cha to Oh, Pretty Woman from Pretty Woman.
Following their performances, the judges delivered their verdicts, with Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton du Beke all choosing to save Jaime and Carlos. With three votes in their favour, they won the majority vote, meaning Chris and Amy would be leaving the competition. Craig Revel Horwood, who this week was the judge with the deciding vote, said that he would also have saved Jaime and Carlos, should he have been required to vote.
