Strictly Come Dancing viewers were left confused during Movie Week as they claimed Delta Goodrem's latest routine on the BBC dancing competition was 'overmarked'.
It has been a busy year for the 41-year-old, who took part in Eurovision earlier in the year. Representing her home country Australia, Delta finished in fourth place with her song Eclipse.
Rising to fame on Neighbours in the early 2000s as teenager Nina Tucker, Delta went on to become one of the biggest musicians in the world. She has had nine number-one singles and 17 top-ten hits on the ARIA Singles Chart.
Delta and Kai's Movie Week performance
Delta is considered one of the favourites to lift the Glitterball on Strictly this year. Teaching her the art of dance is pro dancer Kai Widdrington, who was paired with Vicky Pattison last year.
After scoring 29 points for their Samba last week, Delta and Kai were back on the dancefloor on Saturday night (October 3). With it being Movie Week, they took on the American Smooth to I'll Never Love Again from A Star Is Born.
Presenter Josh Widdicombe said after the dance that Delta 'became the character' and their routine was incredible. Giving her verdict, Motsi Mabuse said: "Last week you left me on a high and you didn't disappoint me this week.
"You have a very special talent to give feeling. Not a lot of people have it and you need to keep it because I absolutely love it."
Judges' scores and fan reaction
With both Motsi and Shirley Ballas taking note of Delta's arm movement, notoriously harsh judge Craig Revel Horwood said he 'cannot agree with the ladies on the panel'. He continued: "I thought your arms were absolutely beautiful. I thought it was gorgeous. I loved it."
Following the comments, Delta and Kai were given eights from Craig and Anton De Beke. With Shirley and Motsi both scoring them seven out of ten, their score came in at 30 points, putting them at the top of the leaderboard.
Strictly fans watching at home rushed to X, previously known as Twitter, to express their shock at the score. Many viewers pointed out that it's very rare for Craig to give such a high score so early into the series.
@slinehan1 said: "Delta and Kai were DEFINITELY over marked in my opinion. It was lumpy and her hands were like spatulas. Very surprised they got 8s. I would've given them a 6, max. #Strictly." @Kaaaaatie_x added: "have any of these dances actually been scored accurately yet. 8s with multiple stumbles, okay #strictly."
@becca_x94 wrote: "Craig scoring higher than Motsi and Shirley??? What is this? #strictly." @ladybuglesbian_ posted: "Craig giving a higher score than motsi and Shirley in week 2 is crazy #Strictly."
@RyanSoapKing25 commented: "2 8's felt slightly overmarked for Delta but I still loved that dance #Strictly." @DebbieBlackma14 stated: "Oh wow an 8 from Craig."
