Strictly Come Dancing fans have been left “gutted” following the revelation of who departed after Icons Week. The BBC programme returned on Saturday, 17 October, with the remaining contestants gracing the dance floor following the elimination of celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton and his partner Amy Dowden, alongside Gavin and Stacey star Melanie Walters and her partner Aljaz Skorjanec.
Icons Week Tributes and Performances
Icons Week featured the stars channelling Madonna during a professional dancers routine, while paying tribute to legendary figures ranging from Aretha Franklin and David Bowie to James Brown and Elton John. Meanwhile, Shirley Ballas appeared as Lady Gaga, Motsi Mabuse embodied Beyonce, and Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke transformed into Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher.
After Saturday evening's performances, spoilers emerged online regarding the dance-off and outcome, which broadcasts on Sunday night weekly but is filmed in advance.
Leaderboard and Fan Reactions
The leaderboard placed Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu at the summit with their Paso Doble, achieving a joint 34 points alongside Love Island star Cach Mercer and Maddie Ingoldsby, who delivered a Foxtrot. They were trailed by Will Best and Dianne Buswell's Jive, which garnered 31, reports Wales Online. Meanwhile, Dame Sarah Storey and Julian Caillon occupied the foot of the leaderboard, securing 21 points for their Tango, while Dani Dyer and Nikita Kuzmin obtained 25 for their Rumba.
Following the results being leaked online, one fan confessed: "That's a shame." Another confirmed they were "really sad" over the elimination, stating: "They still had potential and were gradually improving each week."
Another expressed they were "absolutely gutted for the couple that left". They continued: "As I thought it was the song and theme which sealed their fate as the song didn't match dance style. I'm really shocked about the other couple who were in the bottom 2 but they didn't have their best dance this week."
One fan admitted they were "sad to see" the contestant depart, while someone else agreed: "Gosh gutted for the couple who left. But sadly saw ti coming."
"Bit surprised by this bottom two," another viewer remarked. Yet another concurred: "Right person left, gutted [for the other star in the dance off]."
Delta Goodrem Withdraws Due to Injury
One participant had been compelled to withdraw from this week's competition as Delta Goodrem sustained a rib injury. The BBC had previously announced: "Due to injury, Delta Goodrem has been advised by doctors to rest and, as a result, will not dance on this weekend's Strictly Come Dancing.
"In line with the rules of the show, Delta and Kai will receive a bye through to next week when it is hoped they will be able to dance again. We wish Delta the very best as she continues her recovery."
In her own statement, Delta expressed she was "gutted", adding: "I'm absolutely gutted that a rib injury means I won't be able to dance on Strictly this week. I've been loving every second of this experience, so having to sit this one out is heartbreaking - especially after the high of Saturday night.
"I cannot tell you how much I love being a part of this magical show. I'm going to focus on resting and recovering, and hopefully I'll be back on that dancefloor very soon. Thank you so much to everyone for all the love and support. It's so appreciated. I'll be cheering everyone on from the sidelines this week! Sending all my love, Delta xx."
The Strictly Come Dancing results show airs from 7.10pm on Sunday on BBC One and iPlayer, while the competition continues next Saturday at 6.30pm.
