Strictly 2026: Chris Appleton and Amy Dowden first eliminated

Celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton has become the first celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing. On Saturday night (October 3), the star-studded line-up took to the BBC ballroom for Movie Week, where they dressed up as their favourite film characters. This week, the cast felt the pressure as they danced for their place in next week's show and to avoid the dreaded dance-off.

Dance-Off Showdown

On Sunday night (October 4), the 43-year-old hairdresser and his dance partner, Amy Dowden, found themselves in the dreaded dance-off against Jamie Winstone and Carlos Gu. Both couples performed their routines again, with Chris and Amy performing their Cha Cha to the hit noughties song, I'll Be Ready. The duo embodied David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson as they portrayed Mitch Buchannon and Casey Jean Parker from the film Baywatch on the main stage.

On Saturday night, the judges awarded them 17 points, but noted that they had made a stark improvement following their second performance. Meanwhile, Jamie and Carlos were awarded 21 points out of a possible 40 for their Cha Cha to the song Pretty Woman. The actress returned to her roots by portraying Julia Roberts and Carlos embodying Richard Gere from the hit 1990 rom-com.

Judges' Verdict

After both couples danced their hearts out, all four judges voted to save Jamie and Carlos as they delivered their final verdicts, ultimately sending the hairstylist home. Before their farewell performance, Chris took the time to shower his dance partner with praise. As the dramatic scenes hit the airwaves, viewers flocked to X - formerly known as Twitter - to share their thoughts on the elimination online.
