Variety has announced the first-ever Power of Women event in London, set to take place on June 3 in partnership with A+E Global Media's Lifetime. The event will honour five prominent women: Emilia Clarke, Emma Corrin, Cynthia Erivo, Hannah Waddingham and Suki Waterhouse, each of whom will appear on separate covers of the accompanying Variety issue.
As with previous Power of Women events in Los Angeles, New York and Nashville, each honoree will champion a charity of their choice, with Variety making a donation to each selected organisation. Emilia Clarke, known for her role in 'Game of Thrones', will highlight SameYou, a charity focused on brain injury recovery. Emma Corrin, the first non-binary honoree in the series, will support War Child, which aids children in conflict zones. Cynthia Erivo, an Emmy, Tony and Grammy winner, will represent The Shameless Fund, which benefits LGBTQ+ causes. Hannah Waddingham, star of 'Ted Lasso', will back Make-A-Wish UK, while singer Suki Waterhouse will support Facing the World, which helps children with facial disfigurements.
In addition to the honorees, Variety will publish its Women's Impact Report: London, recognising influential women in UK entertainment and media. All those on the Impact List will be invited to the June 3 event. Variety's Co-President and Publisher Dea Lawrence said: 'As we expand our signature live events, London is a natural choice for the next Power of Women series. Variety Power Women London is part of SXSW London's weeklong programming, with Lifetime as the presenting partner. Trinny London will provide exclusive gift bags for honorees and guests, featuring a selection of their best-selling makeup and skin products.
