Soap star Mark Mortimer dies aged 59 after cancer battle

Actor Mark Mortimer, best known for playing Nick Hudson in the 1990s NBC soap Another World, has died at the age of 59 following a “fearless journey with cancer”.

The former army veteran died on September 23, surrounded by loved ones, his family confirmed in a tribute.

Career and role in Another World

Mortimer was the third actor to take on the role of Nick Hudson, following Justin Chambers and Kevin McClatchy, and appeared in 81 episodes of the show.

His family wrote in his obituary: “He was an Army veteran, a model, an actor, an entrepreneur and a builder. He was a husband, father, son, brother and friend.”

Family tribute and legacy

“He was curious and determined, willing to take chances, start something new, change direction and figure things out along the way,” the tribute continued. “Of all the titles Mark held throughout his life, the two that mattered most to him were husband and dad.”

The obituary added: “His life was not measured simply by the number of years he was given, but by what he did with them. He served. He built. He took chances. He loved deeply. He gave generously. He laughed often. He showed up. And he trusted God all the way home.”

“And for the daughter who trusted him completely and the wife who shared 25 years by his side, there will always be one thing they know without question: They were loved to the moon and back a million times.”

Cancer diagnosis and foundation

Mortimer was diagnosed with cancer in 2024. He is survived by his wife Christie and their daughter Hunter.

He and Christie founded the Integrative Access Foundation, set up to give people facing cancer access to therapies that might not be available to them financially.
