Fans praise Tracey's style
Fans flooded the comments section to compliment her looks and outfits. One user wrote: “These are so beautiful!!” A second labelled her “stunning”, while a third added: “Absolutely stunning shots!! And you’re incredible girl all you’ve achieved.” A fourth said: “Well done Kate. You’ve worked so hard and deserve every success.” Another user joked: “I will give you every last penny I have for that piece of fencing you sat on. PS I am not a weirdo.”
From Racing Post to live TV
In an interview with Principle Magazine, Tracey described her transition into broadcasting as “an absolute baptism of fire”. She said: “I kind of look back now and I think, how did someone let me go live? I knew nothing of what I was doing.”
She explained that she began writing for the Racing Post, which led to race day presenting and radio work. She recalled thinking the jump to live TV “will be nothing of a jump”, but her first live shift proved challenging. After contacting the head of Sky Sports Racing, she was initially told there were no opportunities, but a week later he offered her a role hosting a new Friday morning show previewing weekend action.
He also asked about her knowledge of American racing, and Tracey admitted: “I just lied, lied through my teeth and said, ‘oh, it’s great. Absolutely.’” She was given her first live shift in two weeks, during which she had to learn about American racing terms like “maiden special weight” and “allowance race”.
Surviving the first live shift
Tracey said she had to learn quickly, adding: “I can’t go back on this now. I’m just going to have to do it.” She credited the Sky Sports Racing team for being patient with her, saying: “They are the best team at Sky Sports Racing ever who were so patient with me, didn’t call me out, just helped and guided me through everything.”
She concluded: “I look back now and I just think, how did I survive a four-hour shift of live TV, not knowing what I was talking about and not knowing what they were saying in my ear, but somehow we made it.”
