Hilarious street signs that appeared across Edinburgh during the Fringe Festival have gone viral, with social media users calling for them to become permanent fixtures. The signs, created by social media account A Sign Of Humour, have been branded "brilliant" by TikTok account Scottish Banter, which compiled some of its favourites.
Signs with a Scottish twist
Unlike regular signs that provide parking limitations or warnings, all of these street signs have a funny Scottish twist. With the aim of bringing a bit of "fun to everyday life and giving people something unexpected to smile at", the signs brought joy to festival visitors.
Garnering over 16,700 likes, many Scots have since called for the signs to become a permanent feature of the city streets.
Kilts, haggis and CCTV
Combining the Scots love for a kilt with the unpredictable weather the country is known for, one sign depicts a shocked stick man with his kilt blown up. It is accompanied by the caption: "Underwear must be worn with kilts when wind speeds exceed 25mph."
Meanwhile, another sign combines a CCTV camera alert with a threat familiar to many Scots as children: "CCTV In Operation. If we catch you doing anything daft, yer maw's gettin' telt."
One sign that viewers particularly enjoyed was of a stick man walking his 'pet'. It reads: "After a number of incidents involving tourists, you are no longer allowed to exercise your pet haggis on this street between the hours of 8am and 8pm."
Tourist trail humour
Other signs included vital information for popular films and TV shows set in Scotland, such as Outlander and the Harry Potter films. One post titled the Unofficial Edinburgh Harry Potter Trail says: "This is the only location in the entire city which lays no claim whatsoever of a link of any kind to J.K. Rowling and her Harry Potter books."
Many TikTok users have since flooded the comments section of the post sharing their thoughts. One person wrote: "The world needs humor like this right now. Love it." Another asked: "So funny, can you please come to my town and put some up."
A third person called for the signs to be left up, writing: "Petition to make the No Haggis Walking sign permanent." Another fan added: "I'm in love. These should definitely be permanent fixtures for the good of morale."
One TikTok user concluded: "Scottish people are officially the funniest people on the planet." The mysterious artist behind A Sign Of Humour previously made a variety of hilarious signs in connection with the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow this summer.
