Sarah Platt's Corrie exit 'sealed' as trial verdict looms

Coronation Street could be saying goodbye to Sarah Platt, 39 years after her first appearance, as her murder trial reaches its climax next week. Fans are convinced she will be acquitted, but suspect a temporary exit could follow.

Sarah's dramatic storyline

Sarah (Tina O'Brien) has had a turbulent few months on the cobbles. She is currently behind bars after killing Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) in self-defence back in April, when she struck him with a metal pole on scaffolding, sending him falling to the ground.

She then enlisted former flame Gary Windass (Mikey North) to help cover up the crime. Despite boyfriend Kit Green's (Jacob Roberts) attempts to help her evade justice, Sarah was arrested on suspicion of killing Theo. She has since been sent to prison, where she has faced a difficult time, and is awaiting her trial.

Trial next week

A new promo shows a terrified Sarah in the dock, with a voiceover calling her a "cold-blooded murderer" and Sarah saying: "I think we need to prepare for the worst."

Speaking about the storyline, actress Tina O'Brien said: "Sarah is absolutely terrified; she has been desperate for this day to come but the reality of being brought up from the cells and standing in the dock is overwhelming. As the prosecution case is laid out she is not sure things will go her way."

Fans predict an exit

Although many fans are certain Sarah will be found not guilty and released, they reckon a temporary departure could be on the cards. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one person mused: "Can't see Sarah getting sent to prison, but she'll definitely go see Gail when she's back," referring to mum Gail (Helen Worth) now living in France after her soap exit in 2024.

A second chimed in: "Yeah ofc, that's where they all go." A third penned: "David was just there as well." Another person said: "Don't think they'll get rid of Sarah by sending her to prison." A fifth commented: "Usually the actors take a break after a big storyline anyway."

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
