Sara Cox Takes Over BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show After Scott Mills Sacking
Sara Cox Replaces Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show

Sara Cox has officially taken over BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show after predecessor Scott Mills was dismissed by the broadcaster in March 2026 following allegations over his personal conduct. The 51-year-old from Bolton, Greater Manchester, moved from her teatime slot (4pm-7pm) to the morning gig.

Marriage and Family

Sara is married to Ben Cyzer, whom she met at Glastonbury Festival. The couple married in 2013. On Vernon Kay’s Tracks of My Years, Sara became emotional about her husband, saying: “Oh, don’t, Vernon. I just immediately cry because, I wasn’t looking, but somehow he found me, and that was Ben, my husband. I just got given a second chance, and I just love him so much. We’re a great team.”

Sara has three children: Isaac (18), Renee (16), and Lola Anne (from her first marriage). She was first married to DJ and producer Jon Carter in 2001, with whom she had Lola. The couple separated after four years. Despite saying in 2007 she was “never getting married,” she married Ben Cyzer in 2013 at The Langham hotel in London.

Where She Lives

In November 2025, Sara told The Standard she lives in Tufnell Park, “on a gorgeous tree-lined road where kids still play on their bikes.” She added: “It’s close enough to dodgy areas for me to keep it ‘street’, though. I’ve lived there a little over two years.” She shares the home with her husband, three children, three dogs, two cats, two tortoises, and a horse that does not live at the property.

Early Career and Modelling

At 19, after securing four A-levels, Sara began a modelling career that took her to catwalks in Milan, New York, and South Korea. She weighed just eight stone during that time, later describing her eating habits as “disordered eating.” She told Good Housekeeping: “I had what would now be described as ‘disordered eating’. But back then, in the early 90s, it was just seen as the norm. You smoked a lot of Marlboro Lights and survived on slimmer soups and coffee. It wasn’t remotely healthy!”

She was sent home to Bolton for “bad behaviour” after gaining weight and missing a shoot due to a hangover. Upon return, her agency arranged a casting for Channel 4’s The Girlie Show in Manchester, where she landed her first presenting gig at age 21.

Net Worth and Salary

For the 2023/2024 period, Sara’s yearly salary from Radio 2 and other BBC engagements was between £310,000 and £314,999. The Sun estimated her net worth at around £1 million as of November 2025. She has worked at the BBC for nearly three decades.
