Royal Family faces new drama over late Queen's friendship

The Royal Family could face more drama as a new television series about the late Queen Elizabeth II's friend and dresser Angela Kelly is set to be made.

The drama, titled Trouble, will tell Angela's story and explore her close friendship with the late Queen. The script is being written by Jeremy Brock, who also wrote the script for A Very Royal Scandal.

Drama not a documentary

Last month, reports emerged that a film was being made about Angela Kelly, prompting fears it could be a documentary that would require her to break a gagging order she had signed. However, Richard Eden for The Daily Mail has now had it confirmed that the film will be a drama instead.

A source told Eden: “The film’s title tells you all you need to know.”

Close bond with the Queen

Angela Kelly was very close with the late Queen, with the pair often described as best friends. They got on very well right until the end, and Angela was even gifted a home on the Windsor Castle Estate by the late Queen.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Angela was one of the very few people who were around the late Queen and Prince Philip as part of their social “bubble”.

Speaking to Vanity Fair's Katie Nicholl, Angela once said: “We both knew we had trust, loyalty, and understanding. The queen was my best friend and I miss her every day.

“As I worked alongside the queen, year after year we were getting older, but we were both young at heart, the queen still had a twinkle in her eye.

“The banter and mischief continued until Balmoral. When the queen passed away she was surrounded by her family. It was a shock to the nation, to everyone. It was very sad, but it was an honor to serve the queen until the very end.”
