Wayne Rooney has denied claims that he used weight-loss jabs to transform his physique, insisting he is simply working hard to be healthier.
The former Manchester United and Everton striker, who retired in 2021, has been the subject of speculation on social media after recent photos showed him looking noticeably slimmer than he did two years earlier.
Rooney sets the record straight on This Morning
Speaking on daytime TV show This Morning, Rooney said: "I feel great. I have not drank for a while. I just wanted to feel a bit healthier and be healthier. Obviously, eating habits are a lot better and training."
He added: "Everyone is saying I am on this pen thing, but I am not, I just wanted to put that out there. I actually am working hard to try and look better and be healthier."
Rooney broke onto the scene in the early 2000s playing for Everton before securing a big-money move to Manchester United. After retiring, he turned to management, with his last job coming at Plymouth Argyle in 2024. He has since established himself as a popular pundit, primarily featuring on the BBC and Amazon Prime's Champions League coverage.
Cosmetic surgery admission and documentary revelations
Rooney did admit to going under the knife for cosmetic surgery, but said it was to fix a broken nose sustained during his playing days in the United States. His wife Coleen said: "I thought you were gonna say then, my nose wasn't a cosmetic job, it was a medical job! I tried to get him to do it because of his snoring."
Rooney added: "I couldn't blow one side out of my nose and so I had it fixed."
The couple feature in a recent Disney+ documentary called 'The Real Rooneys', which lifts the lid on Rooney's marriage and family life, as well as some of the scandals he has been involved in. In the series, Coleen admitted she considered walking away from the football superstar, saying: "There are times where I think 'Is the answer to see what it's like if we were separated?'. But we still care for each other; we still have good times. You know, we still love each other."
