The Repair Shop star Dominic Chinea has apologised to viewers after revealing he had cut his finger 'quite badly' while working on a Land Rover Series 1 in his Cornish workshop. In a recent YouTube update, he said the injury was a sign he should 'give it a rest' and go inside to do some editing.
Struggling with the rear tub
Chinea has been restoring the vehicle's rear tub, which he previously admitted had left him 'well and truly stumped' in July. He said he was 'struggling' with the corners, which had three or four layers of material 'all overlapping and spot-welded together'. He explained that they were 'corroded and rotten and need repairs', and apologised for the lack of progress.
In the latest video, progress had been made, with Chinea seen drilling holes in the back panels and installing lights. He then set to work on the windscreen frame, spending a 'huge amount of time' stripping it back before fitting it to the car for a 'morale boost'.
Running out of time
However, he said he was 'rapidly running out of time' and planned to rub down and apply a second coat to the rear tub 'whilst the sun is shining'. He added that he could not do anything else on the window frame until his plan comes into action next week.
Chinea then revealed: 'And I've also cut my finger quite badly, which means it's probably telling me I should give it a rest and go inside and do some editing. So, I'm going to sign off the video here. Sorry it's a short one, but at least it's a bit of an update.'
Pond update disappoints
Earlier, Chinea had shared an update on his pond project, which had also hit a snag. He said the pond was 'completely empty' after draining away, despite adding a layer of puddling clay. He explained: 'The first try was just filling it with the soil that's here. That emptied very quickly. I've put a layer of puddling clay on the bottom. Sprinkled that around, filled it, and it did last for a good few days, but then it's drained away.'
