Princess Anne has been crowned the most popular member of the Royal Family, receiving a 67 percent positive vote in a new YouGov poll. The 76-year-old appeared to dethrone the Prince and Princess of Wales, who are two hugely popular royals.
The popularity number is the percentage of "people who have a positive opinion of the British Royal Family." As evident in the poll, which was titled "The Most Popular British Royal Family", YouGov Ratings "measures the popularity and fame of anything and everything, based on millions of responses from the public," and does so by publishing nationally representative popularity scores for thousands of things.
Anne's Favourability and Praise
Whilst 76 percent had a favourable view of Anne, 7 percent held an unfavourable opinion of her. Majesty Magazine's Managing Editor, Joe Little, has previously spoken fondly of her to HELLO!. He said: "The Princess Royal, with more than half a century of duty and experience under her belt, is regarded by her brother, the King, as the ultimate pair of safe hands."
"Her no-nonsense attitude and work ethic, which even in her 70s shows no signing of waning, has won her a lot of praise – not that she would seek it – from the media and the public over the years."
Rankings of Other Royals
Sixty-four percent shared a favourable opinion of Princess Catherine, with Prince William coming in third at 63 percent. Following Catherine and William, the Duke of Edinburgh claimed fifth place, followed by the Duchess of Edinburgh in sixth and Zara Tindall in seventh.
Queen Camilla ranked in at eighth place, the Duke of Kent at ninth and Prince Harry tenth with 29 percent. Princess Eugenie came in at 11th, followed by Lady Louise Windsor in 12th, Meghan Markle in 13th, Princess Beatrice in 14th, Princess Alexandra in 15th, the Duchess of Gloucester in 16th and the Duke of Gloucester in 17th. Sarah Ferguson, despite the scandal surrounding her over the past year, also made the list in 18th place.
Work Ethic and Family Praise
Despite coming in first in the popularity poll, Anne has lost her spot in the hard-working poll, with King Charles having secured the top spot. Anne has ranked second place in this poll, with 478 engagements. Her younger brother, Prince Edward, came in third place with 313.
Both Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips were full of praise for their mother during an ITV documentary that celebrated her 70th birthday in 2020. Peter, 48, described his mother as "tenacious." Meanwhile, Zara noted: "I don't think you can sum her up in one word," adding: "It's a bit stingy." She did, however, praise her mum, describing her as professional, caring and honest.
Princess Anne, who is the Senior Colonel of the Foot Guards, was pictured with Major General James Bowder, Commanding Officer of the Household Division, today. They attended the Household Cavalry's centenary dedication of the Guards Memorial at Horse Guards Parade in London.
