Price forces Sky apology after World Grand Prix collapse

Gerwyn Price lost the World Grand Prix final 6-4 to Luke Humphries after leading 3-0, and then used an expletive in his post-match interview that forced Sky Sports to apologise to viewers.

The Welshman threw away a huge lead in Sunday's final at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester, missing out on the £120,000 top prize. Humphries responded to Price's fast start by winning six of the next seven legs to seal victory.

Third final defeat of the year

Price has now lost three PDC premier event finals in 2026, having previously been beaten by Luke Littler in the World Matchplay final and Ross Smith in the World Series Finals showpiece. His last major title came in 2022, when he beat Dirk van Duijvenbode in the World Series Finals.

Asked about his feelings after the loss, the 41-year-old said: "I am enjoying life and I am going to be a farmer. I don't give a s***. I am earning a great living. I have a great family. I don't mind."

Sky Sports' Polly James, who conducted the interview on stage, immediately stepped in to apologise for Price's language.

Prize money and ranking

Despite the defeat, Price takes home £80,000 for reaching the final and retains his position at No.4 in the PDC world rankings.

Price has already made plans for life away from the oche after buying a farm, with the former world champion increasingly talking about his ambitions outside professional darts. He has previously spoken about wanting to spend more time with his family and develop the farm he has bought in Treharris.

Reflection on missed chances

Asked about his four-year wait for another major title, he joked: "I don't want to win a major, do I?"

He added: "Luke played brilliantly in the middle part of the game but I still squandered opportunities to put him under pressure, too many opportunities."
