The Music in Lanark committee has announced its programme for the season, with concerts returning to the New Lanark World Heritage Site. The theme is “The World in Sound: Music Without Borders”.
Concerts and events
The first concert on September 5 at 7pm features Spanish and Latin American flavours, reimagining Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and Shostakovich in fresh rhythm-filled arrangements.
On October 24 at 7.30pm, pianist and narrator Gintaras Januševičius presents The Little Prince, inspired by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and brought to life through 27 French piano miniatures from the 19th and 20th centuries.
On November 14 at 7.30pm, Paul Docherty and Jia Ning Ng present “A Musical Voyage on the Danube”, a journey through the musical heritage of Germany, Austria and Hungary featuring Mozart, Beethoven, Bartók and other celebrated composers.
The final event of this year will be on December 17 at 6.45pm, a three-course dinner with a Christmas at the Opera celebration evening, featuring festive favourites sung by exceptional opera singers.
2026 events
Moving into 2026, on February 12 at 6.45pm there will be the Valentines at the Opera show, a timeless celebration of love, music and poems by Robert Burns with a three-course meal and music.
On March 13 at 7.30pm, Ubaldo Rosso and Andrea Vigna Taglianti present “On the Wings of Music”, a special visit from Italy featuring music by Donizetti, Respighi and Nino Rota alongside beloved Scottish songs arranged for flute and piano.
The final event of the programme will be on May 22 at 4pm, titled Ludwig van Beethoven - 200 years of Immortal Music. The concert will feature Christian Henrichsen and Melvin Chan, Montfort Scholars from the University of St Andrew’s, performing Beethoven’s Emperor concerto on two pianos followed by Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Music of America.
Venues and tickets
The events, other than the meals on December 17 and February 12, will be held in The Musicians’ Room, situated in the Institute for the Formation of Character. The two music and dining events will be held in the New Lanark Hotel.
