Fox has greenlit a US remake of the Welsh sitcom Mammoth, created by comedian Mike Bubbins, with the Emmy-winning creators of Modern Family attached to adapt it for American audiences. The network has ordered a series for the 2027-28 season, with Christopher Lloyd and Danny Zuker set to write and executive produce the US version, according to Deadline.
Premise and Cast
Mammoth follows a 1970s PE teacher given a fresh shot at life, starring Bubbins as Tony Mammoth and Car Share actor Sian Gibson as his daughter. The programme, produced and shot in Cardiff, follows the teacher after his body was found preserved in ice, having been presumed dead in an avalanche during a school trip in 1979.
Bubbins said he was "thrilled" with the news and was still "wrapping his head around" the development. Writing on Instagram, he said: "I could not be happier about the people who will be bringing Tony (back) to life in the USA, I’m now huge fan of both of them."
Reaction and Future Seasons
The comedian added: "I’ll make a little video later, but at the moment I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that next year will see a third season of my lovely sitcom, Mammoth, returning to the BBC, and the first season of the US version of Mammoth debuting on Fox TV. Exciting times. Thanks to all of you for your continuing support."
Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network, called the premise "incredibly funny". He said: "The world moved on. Tony Mammoth didn’t. That’s an incredibly funny premise, but what Chris and Danny have developed is so much richer: a wildly original comedy with huge laughs, deep heart, and characters everyone will relate to, whether they like it or not. I look forward to apologizing on Tony’s behalf for years to come."
Filming and Returning Cast
Filming has been underway for the BBC comedy this summer in Cardiff after the third series was commissioned, with stars and crew seen on the steps of Cardiff University's Glamorgan Building in June. Reprising their roles for series three are Sian Gibson as his daughter Mel, Joel Davison as Mel's son Theo, and Joseph Marcell as Mammoth's long-suffering best friend Roger.
