Michael Keaton Named Harvard's 2026 Man of the Year by Hasty Pudding
Michael Keaton Wins Harvard's Hasty Pudding Award

Acclaimed Hollywood actor Michael Keaton has been selected to receive a prestigious honour from one of America's oldest theatrical institutions. He will be named the 2026 Man of the Year by Harvard University's Hasty Pudding Theatricals.

A Storied Honour for a Screen Legend

The historic theatre group, which was founded in 1844 and is recognised as the third-oldest of its kind still operating globally, made the official announcement on Wednesday, 14th January 2026. Keaton is slated to collect his distinctive Pudding Pot award at a celebratory roast event on the 6th of February. Following the ceremony, the actor will attend a performance of the group's 177th annual production, titled "Salooney Tunes."

This annual award is presented by Hasty Pudding Theatricals to recognise individuals who have made a significant and enduring impact on the world of entertainment. Keaton's career, spanning iconic roles in films like "Batman," "Birdman," "Beetlejuice," and "Spotlight," certainly fits that bill. The Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning star has recently directed and starred in the short film "Sweetwater" and served as star and executive producer for the critically acclaimed Hulu miniseries "Dopesick."

From Superhero to Pudding Man

In a playful statement, Hasty Pudding producer Eloise Tunnell celebrated the choice: "He was Batman, then Birdman, and now, most importantly, he’s a Pudding man! Keaton is no stranger to being a superhero, but let’s see if that training earns him a Pudding Pot. We cannot wait to welcome him on February 6th: until then, don’t say his name three times!"

Keaton joins an illustrious list of previous recipients of the Man of the Year award, which includes cinematic giants such as:

  • Clint Eastwood
  • Tom Hanks
  • Robert De Niro
  • Harrison Ford
  • Samuel L. Jackson
  • Ryan Reynolds

The award for the previous year was presented to actor Jon Hamm.

A Tradition of Celebrating Entertainment Icons

While the Man of the Year award dates back decades, Hasty Pudding also presents a Woman of the Year Award, a tradition begun in 1951. The recipient of the 2026 Woman of the Year award is scheduled to be honoured in a separate ceremony on the 30th of January.

The upcoming event in February promises to be a highlight of the social calendar in Cambridge, Massachusetts, blending theatrical tradition with a celebration of one of modern cinema's most versatile and respected actors.
