Meghan Markle has spoken about being "misty-eyed" during a recent interview, describing a "very special moment" in the upcoming documentary "Cookie Queens" that struck a personal chord with her and Prince Harry.
The 91-minute film, set for release on Friday, August 7, follows four Girl Scouts as they navigate the pressures of an $800 million cookie business. It is the first film from Archewell Productions, the media company founded by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Mother's perspective
In the interview, Meghan said the film explores both the joys and pressures of girlhood, which is particularly powerful from a mother's perspective.
As reported by People, the Duchess of Sussex said: "I don’t want to give anything away, but there’s a very special moment when one of the girls accomplishes something she never thought possible. I get misty-eyed every time I watch that scene. She did it! I feel so proud of her."
Empowering young girls
Meghan hopes the documentary will help empower young girls, as it features "future leaders and amazing role models". She added: "Showing young female entrepreneurs, girls with financial literacy, skills that will set them up for future success, and learning how to work to achieve their goals is so inspiring."
One of the real-life young girls in the film is nine-year-old Nikki, who attends the same Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles council where Meghan was once a member. The pair met at the film's premiere earlier this year, with director Alysa Nahmias believing such moments showed Meghan wanted to be part of the project.
Personal connection
Meghan was a Brownie and Junior Girl Scout while growing up in Los Angeles, and her mother, Doria Ragland, served as her troop leader.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are the Executive Producers of "Cookie Queens" under their Archewell Productions banner. The company, founded in 2020, focuses on documentaries, feature films and lifestyle programmes designed to promote community.
"Cookie Queens" launches in the US on Friday and will be screened exclusively in select cinemas. It follows four Girl Scouts, Nikki, Olive, Ara and Shannon Elizabeth, who are balancing childhood while striving to achieve their dreams as entrepreneurs.
