McVitie's has unveiled a new festive Jaffa Cake treat, the Jaffa Elf, which will be available in all major UK supermarkets from September onwards for £1. The elf-shaped cake combines rich dark chocolate with the brand's signature zingy orange jelly centre.
Mixed Reactions on Social Media
While some fans expressed excitement about the new seasonal addition, others were left 'terrified' by the elf's 'mischievous' appearance. One social media user commented: "It's like the stuff of nightmares, why does its face look like that!" Another said: "That's terrifying."
However, not all reactions were negative. A third user wrote: "More chocolate orange, must be my lucky day." Another commented: "Omg more Jaffa Cakey foods bring it on." Someone else said: "Today is a good day."
Other Festive Treats Returning
The Jaffa Elf joins other festive-themed treats in the brand's Christmas line-up, including the returning Jaffa Tree and Jaffa Pole. The Jaffa Tree, which contains three Jaffa Cake Snack Packs and three Jonuts in a Christmas tree-shaped carton, retails at £3 and will be available from September in Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons, Co-Op, Ocado, TJ Morris, Poundland, Spar and Nisa.
The Jaffa Pole, containing 40 cakes per pole, will also return from September in Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Waitrose, Co-Op, Iceland, Home Bargains and Poundland for £4. Additionally, a new McVitie's Jaffa Cakes Spiced Orange flavour will be available in all major UK supermarkets from September for £1.50.
History of Jaffa Cakes
Jaffa Cakes were first invented in 1927 by British biscuit manufacturer McVitie's, nearly 100 years ago. The cake was originally named after Jaffa oranges from the Middle East, which originally flavoured the centre jelly layer. McVitie's has been approached for comment.
