Mariah Carey has been named the 2026 MusiCares Person of the Year, with a gala honouring her scheduled for 30 January 2026 at the Los Angeles Convention Centre, two days before the Grammy Awards.
The singer, who recently released her 16th studio album 'Here For It All,' was recognised for her decades of musical contributions and philanthropic work, including disaster relief after Hurricane Katrina and the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as founding Camp Mariah in partnership with the Fresh Air Fund to support underserved youth.
Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy and MusiCares, said: 'We are honoured to recognise Mariah Carey as this year’s MusiCares Person of the Year, a true creative force and once-in-a-generation talent. Her artistry and her voice have helped shape the sound of our times. We look forward to celebrating her remarkable career on this very special night.'
Theresa Wolters, executive director of MusiCares, added: 'Mariah Carey’s influence extends far beyond her remarkable artistry. She has used her platform consistently to provide tangible support to communities, whether through disaster relief, youth empowerment, or programs that help those facing barriers to opportunity. Her work exemplifies the values at the heart of MusiCares.'
Carey joins a list of past honorees including Grateful Dead, Jon Bon Jovi, Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton and Tom Petty. The MusiCares Person of the Year gala has raised funds for the organisation’s programmes since 1991.
