As temperatures soar past 30C, the ECHO headed into Liverpool city centre to find the best dressed people braving the heat. From budget finds to vintage gems, stylish locals shared their fashion secrets and hot takes.
Heatwave fashion challenges
The Met Office said regions across the UK are set for a scorching week, with temperatures exceeding 30C. Parts of the North West are under an amber heat alert, which remains in place until Friday. Temperatures will peak tomorrow, Thursday August 13, with a forecast as high as 36C in some areas. Hot weather and strong sunshine are expected throughout the week, before a fresher weekend ahead.
Despite the high temperatures, everyone we spoke to had managed to master the challenge of dressing stylishly in the heat.
Style icons and budget finds
Geraldine Hooton, 63, from Crosby, was enjoying the sun on Castle Street. Naming Kate Moss as her style icon, she paired an Asos top and Good American jeans with necklaces and heeled shoes from Zara.
Kiya Gol, 25, from Manchester, said her favourite shops are Pop Boutique and Fripp Store on Bold Street. She wore a Primark skirt and an H&M top, layered with another top from a charity shop, and completed her outfit with necklaces from Grin.
Classic and age-appropriate styles
Brenda Cuthill, 69, from South Liverpool, and Linda Campbell, 71, from Blundellsands, were looking for somewhere to eat. Brenda named Victoria Beckham as her style icon and described her style as "classic", pairing a Next dress with a bag and shoes from Carvela. Linda wore a dress from The Buyers Club and described her style as "age appropriate".
Jael Meshael, 25, from the city centre, said she tries to balance "looking good without looking boring". She paired a Zara top with a Primark skirt, rounding out her outfit with Shein heels and jewellery. She said: "I'd describe my style as elegant and simple. I dress for confidence and go for the boss wife look. A lot of the time I think girls think you need a lot of money to look good but I'm all about what I can get on a budget."
DIY fashion and hot takes
Christmas Kwon, 30, from South Korea, said she thinks people should start cutting their clothes up more. She wore a Bad Cop Bad Cop band t-shirt which she cropped herself, with a skirt from a vintage shop in Paris. She made her jacket herself and got her shoes from New Rock. She said: "New Rock are my favourite shoe brand. They're really hard to break in but once you've broken them in they're so comfortable. My fashion hot take is that people should cut their clothes more so they fit them better and are more their style."
Holly Harding, 21, from Speke, bought most of her outfit from TK Maxx apart from her shoes from Dr Martens. She said her favourite shop is currently Blue Banana on Bold Street. She said: "I'm trying to wean myself off fast fashion and shop at more independent places. My fashion hot take is I disagree with the concept of 'dress for your body'. If you like a top you should wear it, even if it doesn't necessarily flatter you."
