Kenny Logan, husband of presenter Gabby Logan, has candidly discussed using a penis pump during his recovery from prostate cancer. The former Scottish rugby union player joked he would leave his wife if she ever caught him using the device.
Cancer Diagnosis and Surgery
In 2022, Kenny, now 54, revealed he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer despite showing no symptoms. The discovery came after a Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test showed elevated levels, leading to further examinations and the diagnosis.
Kenny, father to 21-year-old twins Reuben and Lois, underwent surgery to remove his prostate and received the all-clear in February 2023. He has since spoken openly about his diagnosis, with Gabby appearing alongside him in solidarity and supporting awareness about screening.
Using the Penis Pump
During treatment, Kenny was told he might experience erectile dysfunction for about three months post-surgery. The hospital provided a penis pump to assist with blood flow and help achieve or sustain an erection.
"That's a huge deal for any man," he told The Telegraph. "But don't let fear or stigma get in the way. As I said to Gabby, 'Let's just deal with me getting cancer-free. Then we can deal with the sex part'."
Kenny recalled telling his wife he would divorce her if she ever caught him using the device. "I used it for 10 minutes a day or so – several times in that first month. [I was] grateful that Gabby was away working on the Commonwealth Games," he added. "I warned her that if she ever walked in on me using it and didn't back straight out the door, I'd never speak to her again," he joked.
Gabby's Reaction
Gabby has also discussed Kenny's requirement to use the pump and his lighthearted warning. During an appearance on The Romesh Ranganathan Show, she revealed: "They gave him at the hospital, a penis pump. And he said he'd leave me if I ever walked in when he was using the penis pump. He said, 'If you ever saw me doing this, I'm leaving'."
"He didn't think it was going to be the sexiest thing in the world," she added. "He'd like it to be known that he didn't need it for too long. I didn't even know such a thing existed."
Commending Kenny for his openness, Gabby told Romesh: "I've got huge admiration for him for doing that and talking about it and being so candid." She further explained that her husband believed he had a responsibility to speak out, as it helps the discussion and prompts others to seek medical checks.
