Kelvin Fletcher was left emotional and fuming after a sheep shearing attempt on his ITV series Fletcher's Family Farm ended in embarrassing failure. The former soap star and his wife Liz attempted to shear four of their sheep on the Cheshire farm, but the task went disastrously wrong.
Battery Failure Halves the Flock
After both Kelvin and Liz had a go at shearing, they decided to time their next attempt. Kelvin explained in a voiceover, "A professional sheep shearer can remove an entire fleece in under one minute, and that target has long gone." As Kelvin struggled with one of the larger sheep, Liz informed him he had already been shearing for 11 minutes. Kelvin responded, "Oh my goodness, that's embarrassing."
Disaster struck when the battery ran out. Kelvin said, "And just as I'm finding the knack, battery's gone. Both batteries have a 90-minute time limit. Now we've not taken 180 minutes." The couple had only completed two and a half sheep. Liz laughed, commenting, "It looks like someone's been murdered."
Kelvin's Frustration and Reflection
Kelvin put his head in his hands and remarked, "I am absolutely fuming. I don't know whether to laugh or cry." Reflecting on the situation, he told his wife, "It started out so well. I hate to admit it, but we've failed that, haven't we? Honestly." He confessed, "I feel like crying," before Liz tried to find a silver lining: "But at least we've learned we will never bother to do that again."
Future of the Show
Fans watching the repeat episode can look forward to new series. ITV recently announced it had commissioned two further series of Fletcher's Family Farm. Kelvin and Liz commented, "We're delighted to be returning for series five and six. What started as a simple desire to share our family's journey has grown into something far bigger than we ever imagined." The show is available to watch on ITVX.
