Josh Widdicombe: 'No One Saw This for Me' After Strictly Debut

Josh Widdicombe has told fans “no one saw this for me” as he spoke for the first time away from the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom in a new social media post, weeks after his hosting debut on the show.

While the comedian did use his Instagram platform to reshare a supportive post from Strictly pro Lauren Oakley about Josh, Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe as hosts after the first live show of the series last month, he recently explained on his Parenting Hell podcast that he doesn't always have the means to use social media.

Back on the Brick

Speaking to friend and co-host Rob Beckett, he said: “I'm back on the brick. You've inspired me, and I'm loving the brick again. It's mad that we've reached this space in time where we have to buy a second phone because we're being dragged into these apps.”

Rob joked about Josh's social media use, pointing out that he has “pulled the drawbridge up” on consuming any content post-2003. But Josh replied: “I pulled the drawbridge up in 2008 when I started stand-up!”

Dressing Room Video

But for the first time since fronting the hit BBC One dance contest, which heads into week three this Saturday (October 10), Josh has taken to social media with a video post. Appearing in a dressing room, he filmed himself talking to the camera as he said: “So I'm having a nap in a dressing room. How's this for absolutely living the greatest life ever?

“I've just had the first Gold Bar I've had in 30 years, and now I'm having a nap. Really take that in. Really take that in. And what's that on my pillowcase? Fake tan. What a life. No one saw this for me.”

A number of his new Strictly co-stars, including Motsi Mabuse and Jaime Winstone, saw the funny side, while professional dancer Vito Coppola laughed and said: “Love you Josh.” Meanwhile, BBC Radio 2's Sally Boazman, aka Sally Traffic, told Josh: “You’re amazing (although I miss you at R2….)” to which he replied: “I’ll be back!”

Strictly Return and Results Show

As fans know, Strictly returned to TV screens on Saturday night (October 3) for the second week, with the new series kicking off at the end of last month, when the show attracted a peak audience of five million viewers. The first results of the series then took place on Sunday evening (October 4), resulting in the first elimination of the series.

It was the first time comedian Josh and his co-hosts had faced a results show, which comes after they made their debut during the pre-recorded launch show last month, after they were picked to replace previous hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.

They first hosted the show's live Movie Week special, and as was the case in week one, Emma and Josh took on Tess’ role of introducing the acts and helping the contestants navigate the judges' comments. Johannes continued to rest up in the ‘Clauditorium’, where he exchanged small talk with the competing couples as the judges determined their scores.

Things changed, however, during Sunday's results show when the show began, Emma and Johannes sat upstairs to chat with the judges, before the elimination began. Josh then swapped upstairs with Johannes to chat with the celebrities who were safe, while Emma remained on the dancefloor to announce the results, and the change was much welcomed by viewers.
