John Craven Admits Early Countryfile Filming Was Difficult

John Craven, the beloved presenter of BBC's Countryfile, has admitted that filming the show in its early days was challenging. The 85-year-old, who has been a staple on the rural affairs programme for 37 years since 1989, opened up about the difficulties in a recent interview with Farmers' Guardian.

Early Challenges on Countryfile

Craven revealed that it was initially hard to get farmers to participate. "In the very early days of Countryfile, it was very difficult to get cameras onto farms and to get farmers to speak to us. It took a long time to win farmers over and let them open the gates of the farm and let us in," he said.

Farmers Now More Open

He noted that farmers are now more willing to share their experiences. Craven emphasized the need to increase domestic food production, stating, "We need to up the amount of food that is produced in this country. The balance between environmental concern and the need to produce more food, that is the big issue that faces the country today."
