Sony's latest PS5 firmware update is rolling out to beta testers, bringing a significant quality-of-life improvement for PS5 Pro owners. The update automatically enables the Enhance PSSR Image Quality setting, which activates the newer AI-powered upscaling technology, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution 2.0, by default.
Automatic PSSR 2.0
Previously, gamers had to manually toggle the setting on. Now, as soon as beta participants turn on their PS5 Pro console, enhanced PSSR is activated. Sony promises this will deliver a "sharper and clearer visual experience" for games that supported the previous version of PSSR.
PSSR was first introduced at the PS5 Pro's launch but faced criticism until it was improved a few months later. Many titles relied on developer patches to take advantage of PSSR 2.0, but now the toggle is on by default, though players can still turn it off if they wish by navigating to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality.

Sony stated: "We've turned on Enhance PSSR Image Quality as a default setting. When you update the system software, this setting automatically turns on. When you enable this feature, enhanced PSSR is used even for games that support the previous version of PSSR so you can enjoy a sharper and clearer visual experience."

Additional Features
The firmware update also introduces a new option to turn off the PS5 Pro's Bluetooth antenna entirely. This is mainly designed for eSports, aiming to eliminate pairing issues when multiple consoles are in close proximity. However, disabling this feature also turns off Rest Mode and the HDMI Link feature that automatically powers on a TV or monitor when the PS5 Pro is turned on.
Finally, Sony claims the update "improves system software performance and stability."
