Jenny Meadows has been part of the BBC's coverage of the European Athletics Championships, which are taking place in the UK for the first time ever. The event features athletes from 49 nations competing for 50 gold medals at the Alexander Stadium, including a mixed 4x100 metre relay for the first time.
Jenny Meadows' Successful Career
Jenny is a retired British athlete whose main event was the 800 metres, although she also competed over 400 metres earlier in her career. She won bronze at the 2009 World Championships and silver at the 2010 World Indoor Championships in the 800 metres. At the European Athletics Championships, she took silver outdoors in 2010 and gold indoors in 2011. She also had international success as part of the Great Britain women's 4x400 metre relay team.
Since retiring, she has moved into coaching. Jenny previously explained: "I definitely didn't intend to go into coaching once I finished as an athlete. I thought that was my time finished in the sport, but you always realise that you have got a lot more still to give."
Who Is Jenny Meadows' Famous Husband?
Jenny is married to her long-time personal coach Trevor Painter. The couple got married in 2006 and share a daughter called Arabella. Trevor is a well-known athletics coach and founder of M11 Track Club. He won the Coaching Achievement Award at the World Athletics Awards 2024 and, alongside Jenny, the Coach of the Year at the 2024 BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
In 2024, the couple were inducted into the England Athletics Hall of Fame for their work with Keely Hodgkinson and Olympic bronze medallists Georgia Hunter Bell and Lewis Davey. Away from coaching, Jenny shares personal updates with her followers on X (formerly Twitter), sharing her life with Trevor and their daughter.
