Jasper Carrott has broken his silence over his daughter Lucy Davis' incurable cancer diagnosis, expressing pride in her strength and requesting privacy for the family.
The Office star, 53, announced on Instagram on Tuesday (August 11) that she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer a year and a half ago. The cancer has metastasized to her bones, including her spine, right hip, and ribs.
In her post, Davis said the cancer is 'incurable' and 'too late for chemo'. She urged others not to ignore any symptoms, writing: "The initial lump that I felt, wasn't a 'lump' as such; rather a kind of hard spot. Really tiny. I almost didn't bother getting it checked. So I guess I'm saying don't ignore anything - get everything checked out."
Davis' message to fans
Davis, known for playing Dawn Tinsley in the BBC comedy The Office, shared that she is trying to live her life 'in as fun a way as I possibly can'. She said humour has been vital to her, asking friends and family to make fun of her and not treat her as a sick person.
She added that she is 'not scared of whatever comes next' and is 'at peace with it', stating that 'leaving her physical body just means going home'. Davis also said she wants to continue working and advocating for animal rights.
Carrott's tribute
In a statement on Wednesday (August 12), Jasper Carrott, who has been married to Lucy's mother Hazel K Jackson since 1972, said: "This is a very difficult time for the whole family and we have been supporting her in every way possible since her diagnosis."
He added: "We are so grateful for all the support we have had over this trying time and we are very hopeful for her future being what she wants it to be."
Carrott continued: "We are so proud of our daughter and love her so much. The way she has conducted herself through many traumatic health issues is a lesson to us all. We would request privacy for the coming months, but thanks once again for the love and concern shown by so many people."
