Jamie Carragher will not be made bankrupt after the Sky Sports pundit has reportedly settled an unpaid tax bill with HMRC.
The BBC previously reported that the former Liverpool and England defender faced being declared bankrupt over an unpaid tax bill, said to be in the region of £700,000 and £800,000. The BBC said documents it had seen showed a case was filed against James Lee Duncan Carragher in August.
Statement from spokesperson
Speaking at the time, a spokesperson representing Carragher said: "This is a private tax matter that should have been resolved sooner, and the appropriate steps are being taken today to settle it. It is understood that the matter will not proceed any further and will be resolved imminently."
The Press Association reports that Judge Nicholas Briggs dismissed a bankruptcy petition against the 48-year-old TV pundit at the Insolvency and Companies Court on Tuesday, October 13.
Petition dismissed
The petition was issued in August but Kevin Hassan, for HM Revenue and Customs, told the hearing in London that the debt has been paid, with no figure given in court.
Carragher, who made 737 appearances for Liverpool, is now a regular on Sky Sports, co-hosting its Monday Night Football programme. He also works for CBS on their Champions League coverage.
