ITV confirms Galway Bay crime drama with Kate Mulgrew and Colm Meaney

ITV has confirmed a new six-part crime drama titled Galway Bay, set on the west coast of Ireland, starring Kate Mulgrew and Colm Meaney. The series comes from Two Cities Television, the producers behind BBC's Blue Lights.

Former NYPD detective leads the cast

The show follows Nora Savage, played by Netflix star Kate Mulgrew, a former NYPD detective who arrives in the west of Ireland hoping to escape a traumatic past and find a quieter life. Things take an unexpected turn when the body of a young woman is discovered in a bog.

As Nora is drawn to the complex case alongside the local Garda team, the investigation leads to Free Farm, an ambitious organisation where young people live and work together on sustainable farming and scientific research. Although it seems idyllic, a tangled web of secrets lies beneath the facade, with competing loyalties and hidden motives carrying potentially devastating consequences.

Cast and creative team revealed

Joining Mulgrew and Meaney are The Gentleman star John Connors, Under the Salt Marsh's India Mullen, Daredevil: Born Again actor Cillian O'Sullivan, and Wreck's Jack Rowan. The series has been created and written by Eithne Verling, marking her first television writing debut. All six episodes were written specifically for Mulgrew following a chance meeting between the pair in Galway that developed into a close friendship.

Darren Nartey, Head of Content Acquisitions at ITV, said: "The Galway Bay Murders is precisely the kind of bold, high-calibre drama our audiences love." Eithne Verling has crafted a completely magnetic crime thriller, with an outstanding cast led by Kate Mulgrew and Colm Meaney, a compelling central mystery, and the stunning backdrop of Ireland's west coast. We're thrilled to partner with ITV Studios, Two Cities Television, and RTÉ to bring this captivating new series to the ITV audience.

Global partnership announced

Stephen Wright, Joint CEO & Creative Director at Two Cities Television, added: "Two Cities Television are thrilled to bring The Galway Bay Murders to a global audience. Along with our production partners at Keeper Productions (The Gone) and As I Am, we are proud to champion Eithne Verling's vision and Kate Mulgrew's passion for Galway and Connemara in this gripping new crime thriller."

A synopsis reads: "Combining a compelling murder mystery with richly drawn characters, dark humour and spectacular scenery, the six-part drama explores how far people will go to protect their secrets and the lengths one woman will go to uncover the truth." The Galway Bay Murders will air on ITV1 and be available to stream on ITVX.
