Hollywood icon Harrison Ford is set to be honoured with one of the entertainment industry's most distinguished accolades, the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award. The announcement was made on Thursday, confirming the 83-year-old actor as the 61st recipient of the guild's highest tribute.
A Storied Career Recognised by Peers
The 32nd annual ceremony, now known as The Actor Awards, will be held on March 1, 2026 at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles. The event will be streamed live globally on Netflix, allowing fans worldwide to witness the celebration.
Ford, whose filmography spans more than 80 films over five decades, expressed profound gratitude for the recognition from his fellow performers. 'I am deeply honoured to be chosen as this year's recipient of the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award,' he stated. 'To be acknowledged by my fellow actors means a great deal to me. I've spent most of my life on film sets, working alongside incredible actors and crews, and I've always felt grateful to be part of this community.'
From Carpenter to Global Film Icon
The actor's remarkable journey to stardom began with humble origins as a carpenter, followed by television roles in series such as Gunsmoke, Ironside, and Kung Fu. His big break arrived with George Lucas's 1973 coming-of-age classic American Graffiti, which paved the way for cinematic history.
Lucas later cast Ford as the charismatic smuggler Han Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy, a role he reprised in two subsequent sequels, cementing his place in pop culture. He then embarked on another legendary franchise, headlining five films as the adventurous archaeologist Indiana Jones.
His catalogue of iconic roles is extensive, including:
- Rick Deckard in Blade Runner
- John Book in Witness (earning him an Oscar nomination)
- Dr. Richard Kimble in The Fugitive
- President James Marshall in Air Force One
- Jack Ryan in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger
More recently, he starred in the Yellowstone prequel 1923 alongside Helen Mirren and appears in the Apple TV+ series Shrinking with Jason Segel.
Accolades and Advocacy Beyond the Screen
This latest award adds to a lifetime of honours for Ford, which includes the Critics Choice Career Achievement Award (2024), the Golden Globes Cecil B. DeMille Award (2002), and the AFI Life Achievement Award (2000).
SAG-AFTRA president Sean Astin praised Ford as a 'singular presence in American life' whose 'iconic characters have shaped world culture.' Astin highlighted the actor's enduring passion for his craft and his indelible impact on the profession.
Beyond acting, Ford has dedicated years to environmental conservation and human rights advocacy. He serves as the vice-chair of Conservation International and is a General Trustee of the Archaeological Institute of America, aligning his off-screen work with the adventurous and principled spirit of his most famous characters.
The 2026 Actors Awards will not only celebrate an extraordinary filmography but also honour the humanitarian commitment of a true Hollywood legend.
