A wedding planner has revealed that a groom's excessive crying at the aisle almost led to the ceremony being cancelled. The incident occurred at a recent wedding attended by the woman behind Haus of the Florals, who shared the story online.
Registrars stopped the ceremony
The planner explained that the registrars halted the proceedings and asked the bride and groom to leave the room. "The registrars literally stopped the ceremony and sent the bride and groom back out of the room. This is because the groom was crying so much that the registrar decided he was distressed, and he was unable to complete the ceremony," she said.
She continued: "So what they did was they sent them out of the room, they had a big long chat with them, made sure that he was crying for the right reasons, and then let them do the ceremony again."
Emotions can be a double-edged sword
While some may appreciate a groom showing emotion, the planner warned this could be a "double-edged sword" if he ends up "crying too much that he looks like he doesn't want to partake." She also noted that ceremonies "might not even let it happen" if someone appears too distressed at the altar.
In the comments, one person wrote: "That's the correct legal practice. The registrar was safeguarding the groom." Another added: "Happened at our office recently with a bride, and she didn't get married that day. In a meeting with my boss the next day, she revealed that she was being coerced."
Reactions from readers
A third commenter said: "Nah, if he was crying so much it looked like coercion, then I'm backing the registrar to be honest, they were safeguarding." Another noted: "It can be due to the stress of the situation! I've seen it as a wedding manager from a confident groom who lost it due to nerves and stress."
A fourth explained it could be "involuntary crying" because of the "people staring" and the expectations on the day. While becoming emotional on a wedding day is normal, this groom learned that big emotions are best saved for after the ceremony.
