A new tartan has been unveiled to celebrate the twinning of Glasgow and Boston, following the Tartan Army's memorable presence at the 2026 World Cup. Officially registered by Buchanan Galleries, the design is named Twinned in Tartan and was commissioned to mark the positive impact Scotland fans left on the Massachusetts city.
Design and Symbolism
Created by Glasgow-based tartan specialists Slanj, the bespoke design incorporates colours inspired by the flags of Glasgow and Boston, as well as the iconic Green Monster of Fenway Park, recognising Boston's sporting heritage. The tartan has been described as "a striking new tartan that symbolises the friendship between the two cities and creates a lasting legacy ahead of the new partnership."
Ceremonial Kilt and Presentation
Buchanan Galleries has also commissioned a ceremonial kilt in the new tartan, which will be gifted to the City of Boston for the official twinning ceremony. The presentation will formally celebrate the long and storied history between Glasgow and Boston as two major North Atlantic port cities over the last four hundred years, while also recognising the role Scotland supporters played in bringing the two cities closer during the recent FIFA World Cup.
