George Bowie has bid an emotional farewell to the Clyde 1 studio in Clydebank after 38 years, sharing his final moments outside the building in an Instagram post.
The GBX DJ, 58, has presented his Bowie at Breakfast show on the radio station for almost 30 years. In a post shared on social media on Friday, August 28, Bowie posted a picture of himself standing outside the studio for the last time.
He captioned the image: "After 38 years it’s time to walk through these doors for the last time. Good bye Clydebank. Love ya."
Fans react to the news
Fans in the comments were left devastated and confused, with one replying: "There is no Clyde 1 without GB, what's happening?" A second concerned listener wrote: "No! This can't be real." A third Scot added: "Sh** myself there."
However, fans need not worry, as the Clyde 1 team are simply relocating their studio to the city centre, and George Bowie is not going anywhere anytime soon.
End of an era for Clydebank studios
It marks the end of an era for the radio broadcaster, which will leave its home in the town's business park and move back to the city after over four decades. The station, which launched on December 31, 1973 from the Anderston Centre, moved to Clydebank in 1983 and has remained there since.
Many legends have walked through the Clydebank doors over the past 42 years. Clyde 1's new home will be at 100 Queen Street, directly across from the Gallery of Modern Art.
Bowie on the move
Speaking of the move, Bowie said: "I started my career in Clydebank, so I’ll always have great memories of the place. But moving back into the city centre, into brand-new, state-of-the-art studios, is such an exciting step - and what a view of the Duke of Wellington to inspire us every morning!"
The news of the studio's relocation was announced earlier this year in January. Clyde 1 travel presenter Amber Livingstone treated fans to a video tour of the studios before her final show in the building this week.
Amber said: "Not a day goes by where I don't feel immense gratitude to work here and have had the privilege to work in this building where legends have been before me."
