A blind taste test comparing Kellogg's Frosties with supermarket own-brand frosted flakes has found that Morrisons' version came out on top, scoring 5/5 and costing half the price of the original.
The test, carried out by Nicola Roy, involved six bowls of cereal poured out for her parents to taste blind. They were asked to identify the real Frosties and choose their favourite. The cereals tested were from Tesco, Asda, Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons, and Kellogg's.
Prices and scores
Prices ranged from 95p for Tesco's 500g box to £3.50 for Kellogg's smaller 470g box. The results placed Tesco in last place with a score of 1/5, followed by Asda with 2/5, Aldi with 3/5, Lidl with 3/5, Kellogg's with 4/5, and Morrisons with 5/5.
Tesco's frosted flakes were described as tasteless with a bizarre aftertaste, more like cornflakes than Frosties. Asda's version tasted nice dry but lost its sugary coating in milk and went mushy quickly. Aldi's were bland but pleasant, and Lidl's were sweeter and held their shape better.
Surprising results
Kellogg's Frosties came in second place. They were described as pretty nice, almost the same as remembered but a little less sweet, and satisfyingly crispy. However, they were the most expensive at £3.50 for a 470g box.
Morrisons' frosted flakes, priced at £1.75 for 500g, were the sweetest and crunchiest, with no unpleasant aftertaste. Both parents thought they were the real deal, and the writer concluded they would be indistinguishable from actual Frosties.
