Fergie reunited with the Black Eyed Peas as they took the stage together at the 52nd annual American Music Awards. At the star-studded ceremony on Monday night, the group's hit song, 'Rock That Body,' won the award for Best Throwback Song of the Year.
During the event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Fergie made a surprise appearance onstage after the Black Eyed Peas were announced as the winners. The songstress, 51, joined her 'longtime friends and brothers,' rappers will.i.am (51), Taboo (50), and apl.de.ap (51), onstage to accept the award.
The song was released in 2009, one year before Fergie last performed with the Black Eyed Peas at the AMAs in 2010, where they performed 'The Time (Dirty Bit).' Fergie left the group in 2018 to pursue a solo career after 16 years as lead vocalist.
All four musicians took turns at the microphone during their acceptance speech. Fergie was the last to speak, and she used the moment to give a shoutout to her 12-year-old son Axl, whom she shares with ex-husband Josh Duhamel.
'What a moment,' Fergie said onstage. 'I want to thank all of the fans for voting for this so I can stand up here right now with my longtime friends and brothers, the Black Eyed Peas.' She continued, 'In honor of this special song, this era, Rock That Body. There's so many memories along the line with that.'
She noted that the song, which has seen a resurgence due to TikTok and social media, finally made her preteen son start listening to her music with the Black Eyed Peas. 'I want to thank everyone who made TikToks and Instagram videos, making this moment possible so that my son would put our song on his playlist,' she added.
'To all of our supporters who have made content throughout the years, thank you so much. Sometimes, the content you make is so big and the feelings are so big for me,' she gushed.
Apl.de.ap gave a shoutout to his Filipino heritage during his speech, while will.i.am and Taboo also expressed gratitude to their fans. Fergie held will.i.am and Taboo's hands during the acceptance speech. Afterward, the group posed for many sweet and fun photos together to commemorate the special moment.
Fergie and her former bandmates have remained close even after she left in 2018. They reunited for their respective milestone 50th birthday celebrations over the years. In late December, Fergie shared an Instagram photo of them posing together at a Los Angeles rooftop locale, captioning it: 'Finally got to break bread and celebrate our milestone birthdays together. What a special night with my brothers, filled with so much love.'
