Emma Willis tells Rylan Clark to leave studio over air con boast

Emma Willis jokingly ordered Rylan Clark to leave her BBC Radio 2 studio after discovering he has air conditioning in his Essex home. The exchange occurred during her Saturday afternoon show, as the UK continues to experience repeated heatwaves.

Rylan's Air Conditioning Admission

During an on-air catch-up, Emma asked Rylan how he had been coping with the heat. Rylan, 37, confirmed he had air conditioning, though he expressed a preference for enjoying the sun by the sea. He said: "I want to say yes, because I don't want to be that Brit that sits there and moans about the sun. But I would prefer to enjoy the sun next to the sea with a drink in hand, not wearing many clothes and not trotting about the UK working and going to places that don't have air conditioning. That's where I'm at!"

Emma then asked if he had air conditioning in his bedroom, and when he confirmed he did, she responded with envy: "Arrghhh. Get out of the studio!"

Rylan Praises Air Con Benefits

Rylan went on to describe how air conditioning in several rooms of his property had been life-changing, even leading his mother, Linda, to stay for several nights to escape the heat. He said: "One of the best things I ever bought was air con – air con in the kitchen, where I mainly sit. I've got air con in the bedroom, I've got air con in my guest bedroom, which is why my mum has come and stayed for the past two nights. So it is one of the things that I'm glad I've got, 100 percent. I can't sleep in a hot room. I just can't do it."

Strictly Come Dancing Debut

Emma's interaction with Rylan comes as she prepares for her first season as a Strictly Come Dancing co-host, joining Johannes Radebe and Josh Widdicombe. They take over from Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, and the show returns in September.

Speaking to The Sun about whether Tess and Claudia had offered advice, Emma said they had been reassuring. She explained: "We've had a little back and forth, yes, and they were lovely. They just said, 'Congrats, well done, you'll smash it'. And I was like, 'S***!' No tips. Just lots of kind words."

In a statement following her announcement, Emma said she had been a "huge fan" of the show and was struggling to comprehend the opportunity. She said: "To be stepping into the Strictly ballroom is something I can't quite comprehend."

Rylan, who was considered for the role, also congratulated Emma, Josh, and Johannes. He said: "This wasn't my time sadly but I'm extremely grateful to even have been considered. Genuinely looking forward to the new series with you three."
