EastEnders star Danny Hatchard has announced his engagement to his girlfriend of six years, Kerry Scouler, following a romantic proposal. The actor, 35, who debuted as Lee Carter in 2014, began dating Kerry, a model and fashion graduate, after she slid into his DMs to confess her crush on him.
Amsterdam Proposal
Taking to Instagram to announce their happy news, a beaming Kerry proudly showcased her new diamond accessory. 'You & me, forever? Don't mind if “I do”💍🤍', her caption read. The slideshow of snaps showed the newly engaged couple on a nighttime boat ride in Amsterdam, which made for the most gorgeous setting for Danny to pop the question.
They celebrated with a glass of champagne, tears noticeable in their eyes as Kerry posed with her ring on display. Fans flooded in to congratulate them in the comments, with Danny Dyer leaving two red hearts, while Matt Lapinskas, who previously played Anthony Moon, wrote: 'Yea lad well done congratulations to both of you 🙌❤️'.
How They Met
Kerry first connected with Danny in 2020 when she messaged him to say she fancied him as Lee on Albert Square. Shooting her shot proved to be exactly the right move, as they've stayed together and shown that manifestation works. Kerry hard-launched their relationship in December that year when she and Danny holidayed in Cyprus. 'Truly blessed by you,' she captioned the loved-up pics.
The lovebirds kept their relationship pretty low-key in the following years. Still, they started sharing glimpses into their life when they created joint social media accounts for comedy sketches, describing the account in the bio as 'Two plonkers plonking'.
Return to Walford
Danny first arrived in Walford 12 years ago as the eldest son of then-Queen Vic landlords Mick and Linda Carter, returning after serving as a corporal in the British Army. The actor has been in and out of the BBC soap since, and he recently confirmed he'll be back again soon, having last been on screen full-time in 2020.
Promising 'explosive' scenes, he said: 'Well, I can't say too much about the timescale of when he actually returns, but what I can tell you is that I'm filming at the moment, and it's a very explosive return.' He added to Digital Spy: 'It is my most exciting return yet. This is my fourth return, and I've got a lot to sink my teeth into. Let's just say that.'
Also back will be Maddy Hill, who plays his sister, Nancy, ahead of Kellie Bright's exit. Kellie, who has played Linda for 13 years, is known to be departing in early 2027 – but even Danny doesn't know what his role in her exit will be. 'I think they intentionally didn't tell me how it all happens for a reason, because they probably don't trust that I'm going to keep it a secret!', he quipped. 'So no, I don't actually have any idea how it all happens. All I know is that it's going to be very exciting and well worth watching.'
