The cast of Aladdin at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House took to the stage on Friday for the annual press launch in Newcastle, kicking off the countdown to the festive season.
With October now underway, Christmas is drawing closer, and for many Geordie families a trip to see a pantomime is a festive tradition alongside visits to Santa, Fenwick's Window, and a Greggs Festive Bake. The region offers a wide range of panto options each year, from the Theatre Royal and the Playhouse in Whitley Bay to Sunderland Empire and beyond.
Star-studded cast unveiled
Last year, the Tyne Theatre delighted audiences with Cinderella, featuring BGT legends Twist & Pulse and Maureen Nolan. This year, producers Enchanted have recruited more celebrities to join the fun.
X Factor finalist Marcus Collins, who played the Genie at the Tyne Theatre in 2019, returns to Westgate Road this Christmas to reprise the role. He is joined by Michael Greco, the former EastEnders star known for playing Albert Square resident Beppe Di Marco.
Local favourites return
Audiences will also be pleased to see local panto legends Charlie Richmond and Lewis Denny back in the fold this year. In keeping with the theatre's tradition of casting a local actress in the lead, Sophie Mordey takes on the role of Princess Jasmine.
Performance dates and gallery
Aladdin runs at the Tyne Theatre from December 4 to January 3. ChronicleLive attended the launch on Friday to meet the cast and capture photos of them in action, with a gallery of shots available below.
