Cheryl Hall, the London-born actress known for her roles in EastEnders and Citizen Smith, has died at the age of 76. Her former partner, Robin Askwith, announced the news on X (formerly Twitter), though no cause of death has been confirmed.
Askwith, who was in a relationship with Hall in the late 1960s, wrote: "What a force of nature she was... A really innovative, working-class, charismatic actress coming out of the late 60s. Brave in every way. And now I have the sad news that she has passed away... I am devastated... she was my beginning... RIP Cheryl Hall."
Career Highlights
Hall is best remembered for playing Shirley Johnson in the British sitcom Citizen Smith (1977–1979) and had a recurring role as Sadie in The Bill. One of her first television appearances was in 1971 when she played Eileen, a clippie, in the On the Buses episode "The Epidemic."
Some viewers may also recall her in the BBC soap EastEnders as Christine in several 1988 episodes. During her time on Citizen Smith, she played the girlfriend of Robert Lindsay's Wolfie Smith, a young Marxist in Tooting.

Hall and Lindsay were married for three years after tying the knot in 1974, divorcing in 1980 when he began dating Diana Weston. She is survived by her husband Robert Lindsay.
Citizen Smith is a 1970s British sitcom created by John Sullivan following Walter Henry "Wolfie" Smith, an unemployed, self-proclaimed Marxist "urban guerrilla" in Tooting, South London, who tries to emulate Che Guevara while leading a tiny, disorganized group of friends called the Tooting Popular Front.
